Editor’s Note: Some readers may be bothered by the language used in this story. It was another trip to Oz on the April 26 Last Week Tonight show. Host John Oliver roasted Dr. Mehmet Oz’s sensationalized response to a Columbia letter calling for the university to drop the embattled TV doctor. It was classic Oliver, showing just how inadequate and amusing Oz’s defense was. To set the stage, a little background is needed. Ten doctors have asked Columbia University’s Dean of Medicine to remove Oz from his faculty position. They argued that Oz demonstrated, “disdain for science,” “baseless and relentless... continue reading
ABC, CBS and NBC refused to cover this year’s March for Marriage – but we at the MRC have the footage they won’t show. In the run up to Supreme Court arguments, The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) hosted its third annual March for Marriage in front of the Capitol on April 25. The event, a self-described “demonstration to the media, opinion leaders, legislators and jurists that a majority of Americans still stand for marriage as it has been traditionally and historically defined” drew 15,000 traditional marriage supporters. Unlike the ABC, NBC and CBS, and Telemundo, Univsion published an extensive... continue reading
If you make your living off killing, it’s helpful to pretend any “stigma” attached to your profession is old-fashioned and hopelessly behind the times. That’s what a media-hyped abortion “spa” in Washington, D.C. is trying to do with the release of a video ad. In 30 seconds, the ad shows three women from the 60s gossiping over tea about a friend who left because of “appendicitis” or for a trip “to the countryside” – that is until a modern woman on her cell phone interrupts, “You guys are talking about abortion.” The ad ends with the young woman repeating the... continue reading
Many historians call the Armenian Holocaust the first holocaust of the 20 th Century, a dress rehearsal for the Nazi nightmare that followed. This April 24 marks the 100 th anniversary of the death of roughly 1.5 million Armenian Christians at the hands of Turkish Muslims. That mass slaughter has gone virtually unreported by the broadcast networks. It was a genocide so awful that candidate Barack Obama promised in 2008 he would acknowledge it as such. “As president, I will recognize the Armenian genocide,” he vowed. Obama has violated that promise every year since. This will be the seventh anniversary... continue reading
Is Cosmo part of the marketing wing of the abortion industry? Dr. Alveda C. King thinks so. King, the pro-life niece of Martin Luther King, Jr., attended a Washington, D.C. press conference launching “ Cosmo Harms Minors ,” a campaign by Victoria Hearst and the National Center on Sexual Exploitation on April 22. At the event, Dr. King explained to MRC Culture that Cosmo’s material helps “line the pockets of the abortion industry,” and that, “Planned Parenthood is joining Cosmo” to “lead that girl into an abortion.” King serves as pastoral associate and director of African-American outreach for Priests... continue reading
Is Cosmo the new Playgirl? Victoria Hearst, granddaughter of the late William Randolph Hearst of Hearst Corporation, criticized her family’s publication of Cosmopolitan at a Washington, D.C. press conference on April 22. At the event, both Hearst and National Center on Sexual Exploitation head Dawn Hawkins spoke with MRC Culture about the launch of their “ Cosmo Harms Minors ” campaign to protect minors from “pornographic” material – and demanded that the magazine “be responsible and label it adult material” like Playboy. Women’s magazine Cosmopolitan “target[s] young girls to expand their audience and increase profits,” a press release announcing the... continue reading
You’re an NBC Nightly News producer working on a story on a sensitive, controversial topic. Journalistic standards demand that, whatever your personal opinions, you seek expert opinions from serious professionals on all sides of the issue. So naturally, the only person you interview agrees with you and has been honored by an organization that boasts “the largest handmade vulva doorframe in America.” Like I said, you work for NBC News. The topic in question was “transgender children,” and the expert of choice was Pediatrician Michelle Forcier, whose credentials include being profiled as “ Hump Day Hero ” by “ The... continue reading
“America’s Doctor” has made a bad impression on 10 American doctors, and in response they have put his claims under the knife. TV’s Dr. Mehmet Oz isn’t happy about it. On April 16, 10 doctors wrote a joint letter to Columbia University’s Dean of Medicine, asking that Dr. Oz be removed from his position as the Vice Chair for the Department of Surgery. Oz is the host of the nationally syndicated Dr. Oz Show and is often cited as a medical/health expert by the media. In their letter to Columbia University, the doctors complained about two separate issues: Oz’s opposition... continue reading

Victoria Hearst, Founder and President of Praise Him Ministries, will launch the “ Cosmo Harms Minors ” campaign in Washington, D.C. on April 22 to criticize Cosmo’s sexually explicit material and demand that minors are protected from the magazine’s “pornographic” influence. Hearst will be joined at the National Press Club by... continue reading
A liberal worth $15 million crusading against the wealthy with a documentary. Now that’s comedy gold. It’s also exactly what British comedian and left-wing activist Russell Brand has done by making The Emperor’s New Clothes , which was directed Michael Winterbottom. The film is scheduled to premiere a number spendy early screenings across the United Kingdom on April 21, before opening on April 24. For a mere £15.50 (about $23) per adult, viewers will be treated to more of Brand’s “ thought-provoking ” opinions and “ big thoughts on big issues .” That is how NBC Today co-hosts Tamron Hall... continue reading
