Social Media Manager

The Social Media Manager (SMM) executes all social media activities for multiple Media Research Center (MRC) brands spanning over 12 million Facebook fans and over 500,000 Twitter followers, with a sharp focus on growing the MRC’s reach and engagement on major social platforms and driving traffic to MRC’s web properties. Additionally, the SMM is responsible for coordinating with the Digital Communications Team (DCT) to ensure an overwhelming response to grassroots campaigns targeting liberal media bias. The SMM tracks and ensures achievement of all marketing goals, including email acquisition, Facebook fan growth and engagement, Twitter impressions, and site traffic goals.

Candidate Profile


  • Social Media Expertise – Candidates must have 2+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated success in building and growing an engaged social media audience on Facebook and Twitter, and a working knowledge of Instagram, Snapchat, and emerging social media platforms.  
  • Data-Driven – Candidates must have a passion for tracking performance metrics, identifying areas that need attention, and coming up with plans to address them.
  • Entrepreneurial Attitude – Ideally, candidate will have experience building a digital audience through multiple online communication channels. Must be creative, resourceful, proactive, and adaptive.
  • Media savvy – Experience with rapid response communications and a war room mentality is a plus. Ideal candidates have knowledge of how a PR campaign functions, and are able to quickly identify the social media tactics that can help achieve that campaign's goal.
  • Committed to Conservative Principles – Candidates must understand key conservative values and beliefs and embrace the mission of the MRC.


Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Manage marketing team (two direct reports) to ensure effective and efficient use of resources.
  • Coordinate with Development to support all online fundraising efforts.
  • Lead social media strategy development and execution for MRC on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as well as – to a lesser degree – YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Snapchat, and other emerging social platforms. Educate MRC senior management about social media trends.
  • Assume daily posting duties for assigned Facebook, Twitter, and other social accounts, and monitor fan/follower feedback.
  • Track, analyze, and report performance of social media efforts continuously and make adjustments as necessary to ensure achievement of REACH, ENGAGEMENT and TRAFFIC goals.
  • Develop and execute advertising campaigns on Facebook and Twitter to achieve AUDIENCE GROWTH and EMAIL ACQUISITION goals.
  • Use creative means to plan, organize, and implement a range of social media routines and rapid response campaigns that drive site traffic, engagement, and brand recognition.
  • Develop and execute name acquisition strategies and tactics to ensure goals are met in a cost-effective manner.
  • Coordinate with Political and External Relations Directors to increase activism (e.g., petitions, phone campaigns) among MRC fans and followers.
  • Develop and execute digital advertising campaigns as required.
  • Coordinate with graphic designer to develop creative and impactful images and content to drive social engagement.
  • Direct live Facebook events with MRC president (and other conservative leaders) and his fans.
  • Monitor trends on Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms continuously and adjust strategies and tactics to maximize performance.
  • Work closely with video team to craft social media videos in order to achieve video view goals.
  • Manage marketing interns.


Required Experience & Education: 
  • Solid foundational knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Google Adwords and other social media advertising platforms.
  • In-depth knowledge of Google Analytics, Facebook’s publishing tools, and other 3rd party social media management tools.
  • Strong writing skills and ability to frame social media content to make it interesting and relevant to audience.
  • Ability to identify breaking news and emerging stories on social media, and work to insert the organization’s content into that narrative.
  • Ability to manage multiple campaigns at once.
  • Attention to detail and passion for performance tracking.
  • Experience managing budgets carefully and precisely.
  • Ability to collaborate with all MRC departments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot all problems related to the organization's social media channels, which can range in complexity.
  • Willingness to act as external organizational ambassador with vendors, big tech, and peer organizations.
  • Ability to publicly present complex social media metrics, concepts, and trends to audiences with nominal knowledge of subject.
