Social Media Coordinator

Position Overview

The Social Media Coordinator (SMC) is instrumental in developing and executing the organization’s social media strategy, which includes responsibility for maximizing reach and engagement for assigned accounts on social networks. The SMC is responsible for maintaining technical expertise in social platforms and staying ahead of trends and best practices to ensure the MRC remains a leader in this area. The SMC must be able to work in-person at the MRC’s Reston, VA office (no remote-only candidates please).

 

Candidate Profile

  • Social Media Expertise – Candidates should have 2+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated success in building and growing an engaged audience on social networks including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Parler, Clouthub, etc. 

  • Strong Communication Skills – Candidates must have proven writing skills and an ability to frame stories for social media that maximizes audience engagement. Accuracy and attention to detail are critical. Writing samples will be required.

  • Data-Driven – Candidate must have a passion for tracking performance metrics, identifying areas that need attention, and coming up with ideas to address them.

  • Commitment to Conservative Principles – Candidates must be a dedicated conservative with a passion for media bias and free speech. They must understand key conservative values and embrace the mission of the MRC.

 

Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Post content daily to multiple social media pages, including major and up-and-coming platforms. This includes scheduling of posts for nights and weekends (where applicable) and optimization of content for social media. 

  • Closely monitor trending stories on social media and determine which are relevant to MRC

  • Track, analyze, and report performance of social media efforts continuously and make adjustments as necessary to ensure achievement of REACH, ENGAGEMENT and TRAFFIC goals.

  • Focus on delivering best-in-class audience engagement through a variety of content types including blogs, video, GIFs, memes, polls, quizzes, etc.

  • Demonstrate an eagerness to research and test new social platforms as they arise.

  • Develop and execute advertising campaigns as directed to achieve audience growth and email acquisition goals.

  • Track and report mentions and engagements.

  • Coordinate with graphic designer to develop creative and impactful images and content to drive social engagement. 

  • Monitor trends on social media platforms continuously and adjust strategies and tactics to maximize performance.

  • Coordinate with DCT and Development to support all online fundraising efforts. 

  • Promote MRC events to social fans/followers (e.g., annual gala, MRC cruise).

 

Required Experience & Education: 
  • Expert on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook with an eagerness to monitor and develop the MRC’s presence on new platforms

  • Strong writing skills and ability to frame social content to make it interesting and relevant to audience

  • Strong sense for identifying and pitching social media-friendly content for a conservative audience

  • Willing to test new ideas and keep up with the ever-changing world of social media

  • Attention to detail and passion for performance tracking

  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Managing budgets carefully and precisely

  • Collaborating within the marketing team and across departments

 

Additional Prefered Skills (Not Required)

  • Expertise in optimizing posts and advertising on social media platforms

  • Basic graphic design skills

  • Experience in the conservative movement

  • Experience with Google Analytics/metrics tracking tools and other 3rd party social media management tools
