News Analyst/NewsBusters Writer (Public Television)
In a timely daily fashion, identify and expose liberal media bias as it occurs in public broadcasting, primarily PBS, analyzing and writing about it for MRC’s NewsBusters blog. This position reports directly to the executive editor of NewsBusters.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Monitor and report on the bias contained on PBS NewsHour, Washington Week, Frontline, Amanpour & Company, and other relevant news programming.
- Identify and report on cases of biased reporting, bias in story selection or placement, reliance on biased sources, use of spin, and/or biased policy recommendations, producing four articles/posts per week and four major studies per year.
- Hold PBS to its self-proclaimed standards and expose them when they fail to do so.
- Identify major donors for each PBS show.
Required Experience & Education:
Candidates should be well-versed in the political process, regularly following the news of the day, and thus able to recognize biased journalism. Ideally, those interested in this position are familiar with the cable news channels and major online news sources.
Candidates should be adept at identifying media misdeeds that will resonate with our audience, be able to quickly absorb, document and explain the bad journalistic behavior, and work independently to produce succinct and well-written posts in a timely manner. Must be able to use video recording and editing software. NewsBusters writers will also be trusted to recognize contrasts to past coverage, offer ideas for how to best discredit public media and assist with research tasks for research studies that demonstrate that taxpayer-funded broadcasting works against half of their involuntary donors.
