Major Gift Officer

Manages a portfolio of donors and prospects in a strategic manner to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward individuals capable of making four-, five-, and six-figure gifts.  

Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Participate and manage various aspects of the moves management/donor development cycle:
    • Initiate and maintain contact with leadership and major gift donors and prospects
    • Develop cultivation strategies, including colleagues from programming and senior staff team members, as appropriate
    • Move donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation; conduct solicitations
    • Maintain communication and stewardship contact
  • Conduct as-needed donor and prospect research
  • Effectively complete and record contact with donors; maintain accurate information through extensive use of Salesforce and other ​management ​tools
  • Collaborate with operational and support staff on administrative processes, including the production of gift acknowledgement letters, and certain department-wide projects such as strategic and operational planning
  • Attend staff and one-on-one meetings to support achieving individual performance goals and to ensure appropriate collaboration toward meeting team goals
Required Experience & Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least 5+ years of proven success in managing and growing a donor portfolio within a non-profit environment
  • Ability to understand the needs and interests of leadership and major gift donors in order to develop relationships between them and the organization
  • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multiple levels of contact as it relates to scheduling visits, developing cultivation and solicitation strategies, and stewarding relationships
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills; demonstrated record of completing assignments
  • Must be comfortable balancing work in and out of the office; travel 30-50% of most months for donor cultivation and solicitation purposes
  • Philosophical identification with the conservative movement
  • Hands-on use of Salesforce preferred
