External Affairs Assistant

Job Summary: 

This position assists the VP of External Affairs with outreach efforts to conservative organizations, facilitates communications between MRC divisions, and coordinates meetings, campaigns, and events to leverage the MRC’s leadership in the movement.

Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Assists with coalition efforts - gathering signatures, helps with drafting letters, and conducting appropriate administrative follow-up

  • Promotes MRC efforts: 

    • Sends blogs and studies to conservative organizations and allies on the Hill

    • Assists in researching speaking opportunities for MRC staff and MRC president; developing leads, and conducting administrative follow-up

    • Researches and recommends interviews/digital content for MRC channels

  • Drafts newsletters for leading conservative organizations:

    • Uses email marketing software to send targeted email communications to MRC contacts 

    • Recommends stories/topics to send to movement contacts

  • Coordinates details of high-profile MRC events:

    • Including, but not limited to, scheduling, catering, and managing attendance and venue

  • Organizes and grows the MRC’s Free Speech Alliance:

    • Adds and recommends new members, both domestically and internationally 

    • Sends communications to the group, schedules speakers, organizes coalition Zoom calls and/or events

  • Manages contacts through Salesforce CRM 

    • Including adding, editing, and grouping data


Required Experience & Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Marketing and Communications degrees are a plus)

  • Ability to work full-time in office in Reston, VA - not a remote position

  • Ability to use Salesforce is a plus

  • Campus involvement in conservative groups is a plus

  • Strong communication skills - both written and spoken

  • Excellent attention to detail
