Nine years and it still seems like we just woke from a nightmare. Sept. 11, 2001, is seared into the national consciousness like Pearl Harbor 60 years before – only worse because we watched it as it happened. A nation was transfixed while 3,000 of our friends, our neighbors, our coworkers, our classmates and our family members perished in violence and fire. They were killed in the Twin Towers, in a field in Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon itself. Police officers and fire fighters fell by the hundreds trying to save as many as they could. All were victims of... continue reading
“Family Circus” is one of those old standby cartoons that, in its 50 th year, still runs in 1,500 newspapers. While the cartoon view of home life sometimes serves as a morality tale, it’s also become a guide on how not to run a country – a guide our president knows all too well. This week, the world watched as Preisdent Obama had to admit that George H. W. Bush wasn’t an idiot. Whether you supported Iraq Part II or not, Bush helped win it. To say otherwise is just to deny history. During his Iraq address, Obama had to... continue reading
My family and I are exhausted. While my wife and kids took an-ultra luxury vacation in Spain , I jetted back and forth to Chicago to celebrate my birthday as a temporary bachelor. After that, we got back together for a family weekend at the beach on the Gulf. Now, we’re here vacationing in the favorite playground of the East Coast rich and famous, Martha’s Vineyard. Whew! I think we’re going to need a vacation to recover from all these vacations. Whoa. Unlike many who aren’t fans of our president – and I am not – I don’t begrudge him... continue reading
To most Americans, the battle over the Ground Zero Mosque is about honoring the victims of 9/11. To those in the news media, the numbers tell a different story. For weeks on end, news outlets have parroted the most left-wing talking points – crying “racism” or “Islamophobia” in an attempt to paint mosque opponents as bigots. The media’s attack on Americans who still remember what happened on Sept. 11 2001, could be called a crusade. But that word that makes you a pro-Western bigot in their eyes. So let’s call it what it is – jihad. An out-and-out pro-Islamist assault... continue reading
A $787 billion bailout. A health care “reform” law that could bury the entire nation in debt. And a trillion-dollar deficit that could repeat every year for the foreseeable future. All that spending means it’s time for the Bill. Bill Clinton, that is. The media and the left are so intent on saving the Obama presidency from its inner Jimmy Carter that they have brought back the one man they know could keep those evil conservatives at bay. The Big Dog himself has returned for yet another romp in the sun. Obama supporters called in their last, best hope –... continue reading
The news media tend to report facts about the economy distinctly and separated from each other. Here is a collection of facts brought together, to provide a clearer, fuller snapshot of the incredibly dangerous position President Obama has us in … Foreclosures are at near record highs despite pumping billions into bail-outs for homeowners in mortgage default. In July, one in every 397 homes got foreclosure notices in the mail. That number is up 9 percent from June. Regular real estate value recovery is prohibited by this inventory glut and the further wave of foreclosures certain to come. The impending... continue reading
JetBlue flight attendant Steven Slater snaps, hurls obscenities, grabs some beer and slides down an emergency exit – tossing away a 20-year career. And he smiles on his way to lockup. An angry customer “loses her cool at an Ohio McDonald’s.” She gets upset they stopped selling Chicken McNuggets, so she attacks several employees through the drive-thru window and goes to jail. Even Obama Press Secretary Robert Gibbs got into the act, bashing liberal critics. Those who think Obama is “like George Bush,” he said, “ought to be drug-tested.” Gibbs later recanted, calling his complaints “inartful.” High unemployment, high stress... continue reading
All last week, poll results had pundits like Chris Matthews puzzled and outraged that a near majority were willing to question President Obama’s very legitimacy. Matthews and co. chalk it up to ignorance, stupidity and – most of all – racism. But for the most part, they’re wrong. I’ve just returned from a business trip to Idaho Falls , Idaho . It’s a place where, yes, they drive pick-ups, own guns and carry Bibles. But, no, they are neither racists nor radicals. In fact, they prefer to be apolitical, focusing on family and community and being as trustworthy as they... continue reading
Happy birthday to me, Happy birthday to me, Happy birthday dear Barry, Happy birthday to me. Today is Barack Obama’s 49th birthday and an ideal time to mark a little more than a year and a half causing havoc in the White House. What could be more appropriate to celebrate his 18 months of self interest and self involvement than a day honoring him? According to the Associated Press, Obama will have dinner with friends and then settle down to a nice evening in his Hyde Park house. With his wife and children away, he’ll be “spending his birthday instead... continue reading
“The Happiest Place on Earth” is not , apparently, the most optimistic place on earth. Last week Disney dumped Miramax for $660-million. A few weeks before, Disney abandoned its own prohibition against residential community development on adjacent-to-parks property in order to convert hundreds of acres into cash. Not long before that, CEO Iger proclaimed a moratorium on one-and-done movies, a reduction in total films per year, and focus only on movies well connected to existent characters and brands. What do you call all this? A pulling back – conversion of assets to cash and conservation of cash. If Disney hasn’t... continue reading
