We now return to Barack Obama’s America – the election edition. It’s not the “bipartisan,” “post-racial” place he promised. Thanks to the left and their media flunkies, it’s Character Assassination Nation. Yes, politics in America has always been a blood sport. You can’t say otherwise for a nation founded in rebellion and that survived a civil war, violence in Congress, duels and who knows what else. It’s not about the daily stupidity that infects all of our lives either. Not the casual comment from top Democrats calling a female GOP gubernatorial candidate a “whore” or left and right shooting from... continue reading
You would think all members of Congress would rebel at being systematically made irrelevant. Is it possible they are so dumb they can’t see Obama at work neutering them? The myriad horrors woven throughout the 2,000+ page health insurance industry destruction, takeover and tax bill are finally beginning to be revealed – a process spurred by McDonalds. What this bill really is all about is concentration of power in one branch of government. Congress okays gigantic, sweeping bill granting all manner of powers to the White House and its czars and appointed administrators, who will turn the 2,000 deliberately incomprehensible... continue reading
President Obama is having less luck in backyards and town halls than he’d hoped. He and his team seem firmly convinced their troubles are all, as the Captain said to Paul Newman in “Cool Hand Luke,” “a failure to communicate.” Further, they think that failure is the fault of an ignorant, stupid, stubborn citizenry, who can’t grasp just how wise and beneficent Obama has been. The possibility that we have all gotten his messages, understand them fully, and reject them is beyond his and his team’s imagination. Obama doesn’t see this as a failure of his policies, his integrity or... continue reading
Imagine the furor if a televangelist went on a major TV network and told viewers Christianity would conquer the world and that the flag of Christianity would fly over the White House. Network reporters, Hollywood celebrities and the pundit class would have seized the moment as an example of the evils of America ’s supposed Christian theocracy. The story would have been tied to the dangers of evangelical religion and likely even to the Tea Parties. Across the oceans, radical Islamists would do as they did during the Koran burning episode or after the Danish cartoons were published. They would... continue reading
Neil Young’s song “The Needle and the Damage Done” was written about heroin addiction, but it might as well have applied to the liberal crusade against science. Young sings: “I've seen the needle/and the damage done.” But unlike heroin, this damage seldom impacts the individual making the choice. It hurts some of our most vulnerable – children. For several years, while some liberals have pushed for health care reform, lefty wackos have been leading the charge against one of the foundations of our successful health care system – vaccines. One of the far left’s leading lights – Robert Kennedy Jr... continue reading
In Bob Woodward’s new book, President Obama is quoted as saying “We can absorb a terrorist attack.” Thus, Woodward reveals in stark clarity Obama’s ambivalence and reluctance to prosecute a war against terrorists who organize against us, let alone the governments that give them safe harbor and support. We have a Commander-in-Chief unwilling to command or protect – whether our own southern border or the nation as a whole. He is willfully derelict in these duties, and if this means you and I and our families must occasionally “absorb” another 9-11 or worse, so be it. When the bodies are... continue reading
In a 1993 contest, Swedish newspaper Expressen gave $1,250 to five expert stock market analysts and to one chimpanzee, named Ola. They were all free to invest in the market as they wished, in a contest to see who could produce the best profit in 30 days. The four analysts used their expertise. Ola threw darts at the financial page. One month later, Ola was $190.00 richer – and the winner of the competition. This sort of thing should keep us all skeptical about experts, analysts, academics. I happen to be an expert, so I know from personal experience how... continue reading
In old Westerns, the good guys would often find themselves beset by enemies and nearly out of ammunition. Just when all seemed lost, a bugle would sound and the cavalry would ride to the rescue. Liberals think their situation is much the same. Those evil tea partiers have them surrounded with just six weeks left until the election. Democrats and the media are hoping life imitates art. If not, the entire leftward tilt of the nation could be in jeopardy. So they called for the cavalry – everyone from former presidents to talking heads to churchgoers. At the Congressional Black... continue reading
At the Gap, at Old Navy, at other stores, the size labels in men’s slacks or jeans lie. Pants labeled as having a 36-in. waist actually measure to 39, 39-1/2, even 41. Why? Because men think they are thinner than they are. If a guy believes he’s a 36, but tries on pants labeled with that waist size and finds them too tight, he’s not likely not to buy at all. So pants manufacturers have learned to lie. They tell us what we want to hear. Mostly, we accept it as reality. President Obama – our pants salesman-in-chief – is... continue reading
You used to have to wait every four years to see nations duke it out during the Olympics, excepting the occasional border tiff or war. Today we’re watching two nations and two economic systems fight right on the front pages of America ’s newspapers. In this corner in the surprising red, white and blue trunks, at a spry 84 years of age, he’s 6’4” and weighing in at 193 pounds, we have El Supremo, the one-time Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. And in this corner in the red trunks, at 6’1” and weighing a svelte 180 pounds, the current champion of... continue reading
