Welcome to the MRC Internship Program home! Our demanding and challenging internships will provide you with the hands-on experience you need to make it in the fast-paced world of media and public policy. Explore the divisions below to get a feel for the areas in which you could specialize and apply today!

If you're up for the challenge, then MRC is the place for you!  You'll need:
•    Excellent writing skills
•    Knowledge of current events and politics
•    The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
•    A passion for politics, journalism, or research
•    A firm understanding of conservative principles based on limited government, individual liberty with responsibility, free enterprise, and a strong national defense

NAD

News and Analysis Division

Analyze news and detect bias with the pros! 

NAD interns become part of the backbone of the MRC, exposing liberal bias in the media on the front lines.

What you would do:
• Assist analysts and editors in the daily tracking of bias airing on the major network and cable news television programs, print and online news outlets
• Assist in writing and editing NAD publications like Notable Quotables, Media Reality Check as well as website content for MRC.org and Newsbusters.org

BMI

Business and Media Institute

Research and write along with BMI full-time employees!

BMI interns work to advance the culture or free enterprise in America.

What you would do:
• Research for op-eds and stories published on our site
• Monitor different areas of the media and write up the results
• Be assigned one major project due at the end of the semester.

In the past the major projects accomplished by interns have included major analysis of media coverage of climate change going back 110 years, a look at how much TV Al Gore and his movie received in the summer of 2006, as well as an examination of how media hype downplays good economic news. All three of those projects resulted in major media hits for BMI, including TV appearances for BMI Vice President Dan Gainor.

Culture and Media Institute

Want to be on the cutting edge of culture and media issues?

CMI interns learn to write more clearly and effectively while promoting personal responsibility and traditional moral principles.

What you would do:
• Research and write with our culture watch
• Attending events in the area
• Clerical tasks
• Constituent services

CMI intern’s work goes beyond the CMI website and is magnified by the other MRC divisions and by editors on the Web and print publications.

Find, research, and write your own news articles that appear with your by-line on Cybercast News Service!

What you would do:
• Work closely with other CNSNews.com staff to find ideas for articles and work through problems that arise in the research and writing process
• Attend weekly CNSNews.com staff meetings to report on the status of current projects and provide input regarding the direction of the organization.

Learn and help to increase media coverage and audience of a unique, dynamic online news product.

Summer Inters 2011

MRCTV

MRCTV

Fully assist in the production of video on one of MRC's higher profile websites

MRCTV interns gain real-world television experience while promoting the conservative message.

What you would do:
• Learn the disciplines of shooting and editing hi-definition video productions
• Learn television studio etiquette
• Learn to write scripts and produce video from your scripts
• Researching and writing for MRCTV's blog
• Set up and assist in the conducting of interviews with high-profile personalities
• Travel to high profile events with an MRCTV crew and post video from location

MRCTV is the one division at the Media Research Center that routinely works with President Brent Bozell and other prominent figures in the conservative movement. Whether we're prepping studio operations during Mr. Bozell's appearances on Fox News from our in-house remote studio, shooting interviews with prominent elected officials from Capitol Hill, conservative leaders, or celebrities, MRCTV is one of the most unpredictable and exciting places to intern at the Media Research Center. You'll never know who you'll meet from week-to-week... because we don't either!

Learn about all aspects of MRC’s marketing operations!

What would you do:
• Learn about social media, email marketing, advertising, analytics, grassroots activities, graphic design, and video editing
• Learn how to contribute to growing the audience for our research and analysis produced by the MRC
• Help grow MRC presence on social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, and Tumblr.
• Help design banner ads or cover art for MRC special reports
• Redesign logos of pamphlets
• Measure traffic trends for MRC websites
• Analyze our database of over 500,000 grassroots members

Help support the entire organization by building, cultivating, and identifying supporters of the MRC!

What you would do:
• Research donors and foundations
• Help with daily activities of fundraising, such as mailings, database analysis, letter and proposal writing
• Assist with donor events and event planning

Information Technology

IT internships provide valuable work experience for students pursuing a degree in Information Technology and Computer Science. Gain hands on experience with web development (Drupal) and web design. Interns will assist with building new web pages, project management, and enhancing existing web site functionality.
