Foundations Manager and Grant Writer

The Media Research Center is seeking a Foundation Manager to manage and grow a portfolio of supporting foundations. The Foundation Manager must understand the Media Research Center’s institutional history, mission, and various programs, identify and recommend funding opportunities, write and submit proposals, track grant proposals and manage relationships with foundation funders.  

Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Conduct research on current and potential foundation donors with an affinity towards supporting the mission of MRC
  • Identify and recommend funding opportunities
  • Place calls, submit letters of inquiry, and submit written proposals following the guidelines of each foundation
  • Develop rapport and maintain relationships with foundation managers/representatives where relevant
  • Handle follow-up correspondence with foundation representatives
  • Maintain a timeline of when foundation donors need progress reports and renewal requests and ensure letters, calls, or face-to-face meetings are made as needed
  • Schedule meetings for executive team with Foundation representatives when needed
  • Maintain accurate records digitally in Salesforce as well as physical files, to ensure foundation donors are frequently contacted with updates, performance reports, and additional funding requests
  • Track the number of grants submitted per week, per month, and per quarter
  • Attend weekly development team meetings and participate in shared responsibilities of meeting department fundraising goals
  • Participate in annual foundation program strategic planning 
Required Experience & Education: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent grant writing experience
  • Excellent writing skills with a firm understanding of grammar as well as formal letter writing
  • Some experience using a CRM (Customer Relationship Management database), such as Salesforce, Raiser's Edge, etc.
  • Understanding of and philosophical identification with the conservative movement is preferred
